Mantle cell lymphoma fact sheet PDF Overview of mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is usually an aggressive (fast growing) B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma. However, in a small proportion of patients it can also behave in a more indolent (slow growing) fashion. MCL is relatively rare and accounts for around 3-5 percent of all lymphomas and approximately 5-10 […]
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare and often aggressive subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). It develops when B lymphocytes on the outer ring of a lymph node — the “mantle zone” — begin to grow and divide quickly and abnormally.
MCL is usually aggressive and spreads quickly, with 70% of patients in stage IV by the time they are diagnosed. Mantle cell lymphoma is a mature B-cell neoplasm usually composed of monomorphic small to medium-sized lymphoid cells with irregular nuclear contours. Leukemic non-nodal mantle cell lymphoma is defined as mantle cell lymphoma in which the patient presents with peripheral blood , bone marrow , and sometimes splenic involvement but without significant adenopathy . Mantle cell lymphoma is a B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL).

Mantle cell lymphoma is a relatively rare B-cell subtype of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma . About 6 percent of NHL's diagnosed in the United States each year are mantle cell lymphomas. They are called this because the cancer begins in the mantle zone of the lymphocyte. F. Fend, L. Quintanilla-Martínez, in Pathobiology of Human Disease, 2014 Abstract.
Since then, it’s historically been one of the most challenging forms of non-Hodgkin lymphoma to treat. While mantle cell lymphoma is considered a difficult cancer to treat, tremendous progress has been made in the discovery of new treatments for the disease. How does mantle cell lymphoma affect the body? Usually the first sign of MCL is a painless swelling in the neck, armpit and/or groin. Multiple lymph nodes may be affected as well as other sites of the body including the spleen, bone marrow, blood, tonsils and adenoids, liver, brain, spinal cord and gastrointestinal tract. Mantle cell lymphoma arises in B cells, a type of white blood cell. Most people with mantle cell lymphoma are diagnosed with an aggressive form of the disease that has already spread.

Mantle cell lymphoma can cause a drop in the white blood cells that help your body fight infections.
It may be an option when your cancer resists or returns after your first treatment. In a clinical study of 60 patients with mantle cell lymphoma who had experienced other treatment failures, TECARTUS helped 62% (37 out of 60) of patients achieve complete remission and 25% (15 out of 60) of patients
